A SOUTHERN HORROR, 2010

God and Country

I’ve always been ashamed to take a government check

Cause I can’t stand charity

But I have never understood how something so good

Can take so much from me

I’ve worked like a slave since 96

in the Texsun factory

All they could say when I got laid off

that it was the economy

I had 22 yrs, and 2 little boys

that don’t understand politics

Don’t understand why they got screwed

by those bastards bush and dick

what’s a man gonna do when an army recruit

says he’ll take my debt from me

Any man would have done what I did

if they had hungry mouths to feed

And they say you fight for god and county

But that wasn’t the case for me

I was shipped across the world so I could feed my family

Two years ago I left Cameron County

ohh how I felt like a man

But that was way before I was sent off to a war

and they buried my legs in the sand

We deployed from bama in the winter time,

We left in the middle of the night

When we stepped off the plane they said welcome to hell

And we are glad you boys arrived

Well 2 months in, I felt the hell he meant.

I was sitting  in my Bradley

Sometimes I wish I would have gotten killed

when I got hit with that RPG

And they say you fight for god and county

But that wasn’t the case for me

I was shipped across the world so I could feed my family

Two years ago I left Cameron County

ohh how I felt like a man

But that was way before I was sent off to a war

and they buried my legs in the sand

Now I got a purple heart but it don’t mean much

I keep it next to my bed pan

I could have done just fine on my own 2 feet

Before I got in bed with uncle sam

And they say you fight for god and county

But that wasn’t the case for me

I was shipped across the world so I could feed my family

Two years ago I left Cameron County

ohh how I felt like a man

But that was way before I was sent off to a war

and they buried my legs in the sand
